Act of the Sea is a film in which the sea is viewed through the eyes of a fisherman, a swimmer, someone drowning, a lifeguard and a maritime traffic controller in Den Helder. Five perspectives on the sea, five stories about its effect on people’s bodies and minds.

Danielle van Vree developed the film during her residency at Het Pompgemaal in Den Helder, supported by the Mondriaan Fund, Amsterdam. She interviewed local residents and asked them how the sea influences their way of thinking and their bodies.
