Visual artists Dominique Panhuysen and Danielle van Vree collaborated on a film installation for which they interviewed their mothers, Monique Panhuysen-Delwaide (1936) and Anneke van Vree-Badoux (1941-2025). They wondered how their mothers’ experiences and memories continue to shape their own lives, and explored the points of connection and exchange between the two women. Based on these conversations, they developed a script.
The book The Years by Annie Ernaux was the starting point for this project. It tells the story of the period from 1941 to 2006 through the lens of memory, combining present-day and remembered impressions. A collective autobiography of our time.

In this collaboration, Dominique and Danielle turn their attention to their mothers as both sources of inspiration and subjects. Their mothers helped shape who they have become as women, mothers and artists. In De lijnen waarlangs wij lopen (The Lines Along Which We Walk), they give their mothers’ generation a voice, allowing it to resonate in the present.
