HINDSIGHT I, II, III
Made during a residency, Bewaerschool, Burgh Haemstede
I - 60’
The performer carries out a series of actions inside the space, while the spectator watches from outside through the window. Each window is connected to a separate speaker, reproducing the sounds of the actions taking place inside.
With each new cycle, the performer omits one action, while the sound of that action remains. Gradually, the performer becomes more and more still, while the sounds of her previous movements continue to fill the space.
II - 3’20
An intimate encounter between one spectator and the performer. Their actions are guided by a voice recording played from a recorder on the table.
III - 33’
The performer lies on a pile of blankets, reciting texts she hears through an invisible earpiece. The texts are drawn from interviews with people living in Burgh-Haamstede, who were each asked the question: “Describe the place where you feel most secure.”
