Sweat consists of two projections. One shows a close-up of a man with a sweaty face; the other shows a woman, also with a sweaty face. Both look directly at the camera. The presence of the other is palpable, and at times visible, within the two images. The woman rubs her cheek against the man’s, pressing her cheek against his. They do not look at each other; their gaze remains fixed on the camera.
In Sweat, the viewer is placed in the tension between intimacy and distance. The work creates a sense of involvement that can feel unsettling.
