Danielle van Vree creates a live video performance that uses the medium of video to explore a space between fiction and reality, where performer and audience coexist.
As the audience enters the space, they encounter a woman lying on the floor, as if she has just fallen. Painted on the wall behind her are the words: “sometimes you just stop.” Above the doorway, a camera films the section of floor where the woman is lying and where the audience enters the space.
On the wall to the left of the doorway, a projection combines the live footage with a pre-recorded video of the same woman standing up and moving through the space. She repeatedly rises from her own body and moves among and between the audience.
To watch the projection, the audience has to turn away from the live situation unfolding in front of them.
